This was our very first YW. Although it has moved location over the years, it now resides at the foot of Table Mountain and within easy access to the cable car, Camps Bay beaches and the popular Waterfront. The Cape Town YW is a villa-style house accommodating 41 young women in a hostel-type facility in close proximity to all the learning establishments.

Students from all over Africa stay at the Cape Town YW whilst studying – normally for a full year. All students have their own bedroom.

Life as a student at the CT YW 2008

2008 is drawing to an end and the end of a year is a time for reflection...my only problem is that with the end of this year comes the end of 4 years of calling the YW my home. While reflecting on this fact I’m filled with sadness as living here I have had the opportunity to meet amazing people who have all guided and helped me through the tough times, people who carry God so close to their hearts that you can feel His presence in the room whenever they are around. I have made so many friends...I mean, SISTERS and this year especially, the house has been filled with laughter and crazy moments. My fondest memories will definitely have to be the dress up’s ;) the v-day, Christmas, women’s day and Spring day functions. I’ll always cherish the fact that whenever anyone needs to cry, we’ve had someone to cry with and on better days when you want to dance, everyone wants to dance with you! One of many of these days was when Africa Jam came to visit and we danced and sang our hearts out! Although I have to go my own way now, each and every person here has made an imprint on my heart and I’ll carry that with me forever! It’s been almost a year, wow; I can’t believe how fast time goes by when you are having a good time. My stay here at the YW has definitely been one of the most memorable ever! I have met and forged some great friendships and it still amazes me when I think we have only known each other for a short period. Wednesday’s are by far my favourite because we have the opportunity to meet other people and to hear their stories which are always inspiring. In the last few months, we have had a few of the girls share their life stories and I have to mention the mesmerizing dance and soul sounds of the African drums and music performed by Africa Jam. Sometimes I am so busy with school work and being on schedule that I sometimes forget to take some time out just to breathe and be in the moment but when I return to the Y at the end of the day, somebody wants to know how my day was or just wants to be heard and it has helped me to be more present and taught me to listen more. I also attend bible study held by some of the girls and I am moved by how much we have grown spiritually. I started off as a Social giant and a spiritual dwarf but now I have and still am finding the balance. So, I guess the best way to summarize my time here at the Y would be to state that it’s been a great experience with many lessons taught and learnt. -Inoba Siwundla-		Roxy (Plettenberg Bay) in her well appointed room with PC and internet access
